Growing Tree Children's Center Supports Student Leaning Throughout the Summer

September 12, 2017

This past summer, the children in Growing Tree Children’s Center learned all about the tropical rainforest.  With decorations lining the hallways of the center, watching butterflies grow from larva, learning about the animals and plants, and taking day trips to the Zoo & the Domes, the kids have learned all about what the rainforest life is like.  We have watched the rainforest grow for many weeks, and the children have enjoyed sharing what they have learned.

While summertime can be a break from daily school life, it is important for children to continue learning throughout all the year.  The Growing Tree Children’s Center focuses on age appropriate activities that emphasize literacy, learning, and child development.  Our goal is to ensure that our students return to school in the fall better prepared for the upcoming school year.  UMCS & the Growing Tree Children’s Center also equips our school age children for school with backpacks and school supplies for the coming year, all through generous donations from congregations and individuals.  They receive these items at our yearly summer program ‘graduation’ ceremony, where students are recognized for their work over the summer and are encouraged for their upcoming school year.  This year’s celebration was a joyful event as our children were excited to return back to school!
