Volunteer

Volunteers are an integral part of the success of UMCS’ work in the community.  There are a number of volunteer opportunities for both individuals and groups available at UMCS.

Family Resource Center

Volunteers (most ages, under 18 require adult supervision) are needed every Monday & Wednesday to assist in the Emergency Food Bank and Wednesday to help in the Clothing & Hygiene bank.  Duties include packing food, assisting clients with food & clothing items, cleaning and sorting clothes, sorting food, and other activities.  Both individuals and groups can volunteer at these times.  Contact Sha'Ron Maclin to schedule a time.

The Growing Tree Children’s Center

Volunteers (age 16+) are needed during the morning hours (9am-1pm) on Monday - Fridays to help with various activities with the children.  Activities may include: reading to students, playing games, assisting on field trips, etc.  Individual volunteers are best, but volunteer groups may be accommodated on a case-by-case basis.  Contact Theresa Purifoy to schedule a time.

Additional Group Volunteer opportunities

Volunteer groups (most ages, under 18 require adult supervision) are needed and welcomed throughout the year to help with a number of different projects and activities.  From assisting with landscaping, cleaning and organizing the Family Resource Center, painting and upgrading apartment units and common areas, and more advanced building projects, we have opportunities for groups of all ages and sizes.  We would love to have conversation with you and your group about what you are looking to do and how you might be able to help, and will work with you to develop a volunteer project.  All group volunteer experiences can include a tour of UMCS and explanation of the services we provide to the Washington Park community and a chance for your group to ask questions as well.  To arrange a group volunteer opportunity, please contact us at (414) 344-1818 or info@umcs-wi.org.
